Susan Erskine-Jones

Painter/Printmaker

My creative process is anchored in a search for grounding, born from a life split between two cultures. After completing my postgraduate art training in South Africa at age 25, a one-year travel ticket at 27 led to an unexpected, permanent move to the UK. This enduring sense of a vacillating home drives my exploration of time, memory, and identity.

To capture these themes, I paint everyday scenes, transforming overlooked, mundane spaces into moments of quiet meaning. Technically, my style bridges printmaking and painting. I often apply print textures to canvas alongside brushes, rollers, and rags to evoke specific memories. Each piece evolves through a stratification of physical layers, allowing the final story to emerge naturally as the materials build up.
