Paul Freeman

Paul Freeman is a native Yorkshireman who still lives in the area.

After building a career in hairstyling for nearly 50 years, he decided to take up painting – a decision that has seen him win both critical acclaim and awards.

His paintings are mainly mixed media, watercolour or acrylic, seeking out the quiet, unspoiled places that evoke memory and emotion.  The landscapes are built from earth, water, air, weather, shadow and light, combined with strokes, marks, glazes, scratches and scrapes using a wide array of fine art materials, representative and recognizable but not constrained by precise detail.

Painting all the seasons, he captures the play of light and shadows, thus providing a visual record of the mood and feel of each individual location at any given time. As his approach is connected to such personal sentiments, he finds having other people wanting to have his pieces on their walls the highest compliment an artist can achieve.
