Steve was born in Sheffield but ended up studying and working in London before returning to Derbyshire. He exhibited in a number of galleries in London and the South East including the Indian High Commission Cultural centre and the Nehru centre.
His work does not try to capture the typical chaotic bustle of the Indian cities which many people associate with. Instead, he is more interested in the slower paced passage of time found in less visited parts of the country and the traditional lives and issues faced especially by rural Indian women.
He enjoys the tensions created by juxtaposing different elements;
poise and feminine beauty against injustice and drudgery
fleeting passing life against cultural longevity
the amazing colours, patterns and textures against harsh weathered landscapes both urban and desert.
