My early artistic influences were in London, where I grew up. I modelled for a painter called Leon Kossoff and attended Life drawing classes taught by Sargy Mann. At that time, I exhibited work in The Camden Artists  Show at Burgh House , Hampstead, and at the Royal Festival Hall through the Spirit of London Competition.

When I moved to Sheffield, I taught at the Mappin Art Gallery and at Sheffield College. Four years ago I moved to Eyam, in Derbyshire.

I  sketch in the local landscape, but in the studio the paintings take on a life of their own, often going through many transitions arriving at an unknown place. For me painting is a mysterious  and intuitive process in which the medium of paint  can express feelings about light and space.

In 2009 I was funded by the Arts Council  for a solo show called the Energy of Myth at the Workstation , Sheffield.

I have also shown in the  past at the Bankside Gallery London (the Royal Watercolour Competition).
