Kerri Pratt

Inspired by travel and personal encounters and experiences of new places, notably city environments, Kerri’s paintings reference an interest in architecture and the way man-made structures create curious spaces within the urban landscape suggesting intriguing compositions for the work.

The paintings are influenced by a drawing process developed to deconstruct the landscape into the simplest form.  Combined with an approach of experimental paint techniques derived from print-making processes, these elements of the known and unknown open up new avenues for creativity and intuitive response.

The intention is never to produce a realistic, photographic image.  Instead, she aims to create in her painting, an element of familiarity to intrigue and engage the viewer without fully revealing itself.  Therefore there is an importance attached to the ambiguity that the work contains so that it can impact on people in different ways connecting with the viewers own experiences, thoughts and memories.
