Ian Palmer

Recently my sculpture cycles have taken me to long-ago times and faraway places, so with this exhibition I am reconnecting to my roots.

My Working Men Cycle was inspired by photos from the early 1900s of family members and friends in the Black Country, but these working men and kids in cloth caps could be from anywhere in Northern England. They had hard lives working six long days a week with just Sunday off, the morning to be spent mostly with pals in the pub for a pint and a game of dominoes or darts.
