Great Food and a Welcome Ambiance steeped in Art, History and Culture
The Courtney Gallery is situated in the historic Georgian Market Town of Ashbourne in Derbyshire, the ideal place to soak up the historical atmosphere and present-day culture of the area. One of the largest art galleries in the region, we exhibit a variety of contemporary art, including original paintings, prints, sculpture and ceramics over four floors of gallery space.
Our café, nestled within the art gallery, offers a dog-friendly and spacious environment, boasting a menu featuring locally sourced produce with healthy options. Signature dishes like the bacon and brie sandwich, roasted beetroot salad and diverse gluten-free, dairy-free cakes stand out. The café comfortably accommodates small to medium groups and hosts art workshops, book club meetings, and local group gatherings.
Notably, we host special exhibitions by local artists and promote the art of young, budding talents, to foster a vibrant artistic community. If you cannot make it to the gallery, you can browse the online exhibitions on our website.
PRIVATE VIEWINGS
Private viewings are now available on Sunday and Monday between 11am and 3pm, where you can have four floors of paintings all to yourself.

Courtney Gallery is a member of the Own Art scheme, which means that you can buy the art and craft you love and pay for it in monthly, interest-free instalments.
Own Art is a national initiative, supported by Arts Council England, which enables anyone and everyone to start their own art collection.
Applying for an Own Art loan is easy! The first stage is the difficult bit – deciding what to buy. Take a look at our wonderful range of artworks and see how easy it is to take it home.
For example, this ethereal wintery scene by Amanda Horvath costs £525.00 which may seem like a lot to pay in one go. But with an Own Art loan, you could be paying £52.50 a month for 10 months with 0% interest. And the best part? You can take your painting home with you straight away.
